This policy defines the parameters for assignment of the grade of P (Progress).
Graduate students pursuing Master's or PhD degrees in academic programs under the purview of the Graduate School.
A grade of Progress (P) must be changed to a final grade before a degree or preliminary exam warrant will be issued, except for Progress (P) grades in research and thesis courses. Research and thesis courses may seek a warrant pending submission of the final S/U grade.
If a grade of Progress (P) is assigned for research courses numbered 790, 890, and 990, the grade of Progress (P) will remain on the grade roster and the student’s record until the faculty member assigns a grade of Satisfactory (S) or U (Unsatisfactory). The grade of P is not calculated in a student’s grade-point average.
All previously assigned P grades in a research course will revert to Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U) upon submission of a grade change. (All grades for 790, 890, and 990 that are unreported by the end of the grading period will be automatically assigned a P.)
