University Policy

Rationale/​Purpose:

The Wisconsin Union is a membership organization. Its buildings, facilities, and programs are open to members, university associates, and invited guests of the university. The Union is not open to the public except for those events specifically identified as such per UWS 18.06(20). The Wisconsin Union values respect for all people, history, and traditions. Members and guests are expected to understand and follow the Patron Code of Conduct, as well as the Union Terrace rules below.

Policy:

 

1. Two forms of ID are required to purchase alcohol: one for Wisconsin Union membership and one for proof of age. Alcoholic beverages in the possession of minors will be confiscated.
2. Firearms and other weapons are prohibited on the Union Terrace and elsewhere at the Memorial Union.
3. With the exception of service dogs, pets are not allowed on the Union Terrace or inside the Memorial Union.
4. No bikes (please use the bike racks!), rollerblades, skateboards, Frisbees®, and other flying discs, or ball play.
5. No soliciting.
6. No carry-in alcohol or other beverages.
7. No carry-in food (personal bag lunches are OK).
8. No smoking (except in designated areas).
9. No commercial photography (without permission).
10. Plastic cups can be recycled—please dispose of them in the appropriate receptacles.
11. Please don’t feed the ducks, seagulls, and other wildlife. It degrades the water and endangers swimmers, boaters, and windsurfers.
