The Union Council affirms the principle that the administration of the literature display area policy and the establishment of operational guidelines be left to the discretion of the Central Reservations Office. The following should be kept in mind in the establishment of such guidelines:
Considering the crowded conditions and the demand for space, Registered Student Organizations will have the preferred opportunity to present their own materials or publications, whenever such activities are directly related to the organization's stated purpose. Therefore, it is understood that Registered Student Organizations granted the use of a booth may not reassign the booth space to others or permit the use of the space for or by others.
The space is also available for Union departments to invite outside organizations to present information that is directly related to the department’s purpose and supports the out-of-classroom learning of the University community. As demand for space is not as great, lobby display tables at Union South may be reserved by University departments for distribution of materials related to the mission of the department. Commercial sales by outside vendors are not allowed in literature display areas at Memorial Union.
The designation of literature display areas in both buildings will be approved by the Assistant Director-Facilities.
