- Policy Statement
- In general, UW students are given first priority for Wisconsin Union part-time positions. Other non-UW students and temporary employees should only be hired when student help is not available or under other special circumstances.
- To ensure that employing UW students remains an organizational priority, all temporary employment position requests must be approved in advance by the Wisconsin Union Deputy Director.
- Special Circumstances: Graduating and Non-Continuing Students
-
- Graduating students are considered students through the last payroll calendar day of the completed semester.
- Students who withdraw from school during a semester are no longer eligible for student employment as of the date of withdrawal.
- In most cases, once an employee is no longer a student, their Wisconsin Union employment should end.
- The Wisconsin Union allows graduating student employees to continue their employment with the Wisconsin Union for a limited time with supervisor approval through the following dates:
- May graduates: are able to work through the first payroll period of the Fall Semester, based on need by the department.
- August graduates: are able to work through the first payroll period of the Spring Semester, based on need by the department.
- December graduates: are able to work through the first payroll period of the Summer Semester, based on need by the department.
- Per UW policy, graduating students who continue to work must be switched to temporary employee status. Any switches extending beyond the parameters noted above must be pre-approved by the Wisconsin Union Deputy Director.
