This policy and related verification process apply to all paid employees hired after November 6, 1986 (full-time, part-time, permanent, and non-permanent employees, including student employees). This includes employees who are re-employed (in the same or another position) after a break in service.
This policy does not apply to:
- An individual on scholarship or fellowship (postdoctoral fellow, postdoctoral trainee, graduate intern trainee, fellow, scholar, trainee, or advanced opportunity fellow).
- An employee who assumes a new position with no break in service (either the same or different department at the University).
- An employee hired prior to November 7, 1986, who is still in the same position. An employee hired prior to November 7, 1986, whose employment has been temporarily interrupted due to an approved (paid or unpaid) leave of absence during which the employee always had a reasonable expectation of employment.
- An employee who is assigned to work outside the U.S. and does not perform services within the U.S.
- An individual on contract for services.
- An individual with a zero-dollar appointment.
- An employee returning from an authorized (paid or unpaid) leave of absence to the same position they held prior to the leave.
