Rationale/​Purpose:

The purpose of this Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) policy is to provide information regarding receipt and transmission of public comments.

Definitions:

Public comment

A comment on the IBC’s actions received by the IBC from a member of the public. 

Member of the public

Persons not employed by or not matriculated student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. 

Policy:

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) encourages members of the public to submit comments to the IBC. Upon receipt of any such comments, the IBC will prepare a response that will be approved by a vote of the IBC. For comments related to research subject to the NIH guidelines, the IBC will forward the public comments and IBC response to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Science Policy.
