University Policy

Rationale/​Purpose:

Park and ride permits provide a low-cost parking option for faculty, staff, and students with a valid Wiscard/UW Health ID to park in an off-campus parking lot and use alternative forms of transportation to/from campus. This policy outlines who is eligible for Park and Ride permits and appropriate use of park and ride permits issued to permit holders.

Scope:

Faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Contractors, travelers, and members of the public may be eligible to apply for a park and ride permit, depending on availability.

Policy:
  1. Faculty and staff with a valid Wiscard/UW Health ID may apply for a park and ride permit online. Students may be eligible to purchase a park and ride permit, as space allows.
  2. Parking is allowed only in the designated section of the assigned park and ride lot.
  3. Park and ride permits are for the exclusive use of the permit holders and may not be transferred, sold, or loaned to anyone else for their use.
  4. One permit will be issued per park and ride parking assignment.
  5. Faculty, staff, and students with a park and ride permit are eligible for the Emergency Ride Home program. More information about the Emergency Ride Home program is available at UW-Madison Transportation Services.
  6. Park and ride permits are valid in various campus surface lots from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday when the park and ride permit is displayed on the vehicle.   7. Restrictions
    1. Overnight parking is not permitted.
    2. Park and ride shuttle service is restricted to park and ride permit holders, registered carpool members with a park and ride permit, and UW-Madison Transportation Services approved individuals. Permit holders are not required to park a vehicle in the lot to use the shuttle.
    3. Park and ride permit holders do not qualify for a business alternate permit.
