The Department has apparel and equipment policies and procedures that outline guidelines for all student-athletes, coaches and staff members. The following is a summary of the information that applies to student-athletes:
The Head Coach will submit a team roster to Compliance Office who will provide a “certified eligibility list” to the Equipment Manager. The “University of Wisconsin Department of Athletics Clearance for Participation and Issuance of Equipment” form must also be completed and have the proper approvals before any equipment is issued. This form can be accessed through Jump Forward. The head coach and equipment manager will review apparel and equipment needs.
Equipment will be issued to late roster additions no earlier than the day after the Equipment Manager receives the completed Late Addition to Team Roster form from the Compliance Office. This form can be accessed through Jump Forward.
Prior to each competition, the Head Coach will supply the Equipment Manager with 1) the dress roster; 2) the time of home event, or departure time of away event; and 3) any special or extra equipment required. Upon completion of competition, all issued apparel and equipment must be returned to the Equipment Room or team locker room.
Apparel and equipment must be distributed to student-athletes prior to the end of the respective semester or before the completion of the student-athlete’s playing season, whichever comes later. No additional apparel or equipment may be purchased for summer issue. Only items budgeted for in the previous academic year may be distributed.
Competition uniforms are to be returned to the Equipment Manager at the completion of the sport’s competitive playing season. Student-athletes may be required to return practice apparel and equipment as directed by the Head Coach. Apparel items that present a potential health risk shall be considered expendable (e.g., bras, compression shirts/shorts, socks, shoes, etc.) and do not need to be returned. Customized sports equipment (e.g., mitts, racquets, clubs) may be considered expendable and may be retained by a student-athlete unless determined reusable by the Head Coach.
Any student-athlete who quits or is dismissed from a team is responsible for immediately returning apparel and equipment to the Equipment Manager. Apparel items that present a potential health risk shall be considered expendable (e.g., bras, compression shirts/shorts, socks, shoes) and do not need to be returned. Customized sports equipment (e.g., mitts, racquets, clubs) may be considered expendable and may be retained by a student-athlete unless determined reusable by the Head Coach.
If apparel or equipment is not returned, the Equipment Room will notify the Compliance Office to place a hold on the student-athlete’s campus records.
