The UW–Madison Division of Intercollegiate Athletics permits post season bonuses by coaches to be recognized in the form of cash awards funded by outside sources in accordance with NCAA rules. Awards will be approved only if they are in recognition of post-season achievements as specified in the attached UW–Madison Post-Season Bonus Schedule. Any awards for unspecified achievements will not be approved. The payment of these awards is subject to the availability of funds from an outside source and is not guaranteed by the university.
Procedure:
Award Eligibility & Procedures
The Post-Season Bonus Policy applies to full-time head and assistant coaches and strength coaches in all sports.
Coaches will be eligible for a post-season bonus based on the recommendation of the Athletics Director (based on the performance evaluation conducted by the Sport Administrator) and approval of the Athletic Board. The Sport Administrator's evaluation will involve careful consideration of the academic success of the team, compliance with policies (Division, Athletic Board, NCAA, Big Ten, WCHA), and student-athlete experience, in addition to the athletic success reflected in eligibility for these awards.
After approving the Post Season Bonus, the Athletic Board will submit the list of recipients and awards to the Chancellor for review.
All Award amounts shall be based on the coach's contracted based salary for the fiscal year of achievement and calculated as a percent specified in the attached University of Wisconsin-Madison Post Season Bonus Schedule.
All Award payments will be paid through the University's payroll system from funds transferred to the University from funds held at the University of Wisconsin Foundation on behalf of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Coaches of multiple sports are eligible for one highest finish award, regardless of sport, not to exceed 20% cap total award (excluding COY awards).
