University Policy

Rationale/​Purpose:

UW-Madison Transportation Services will provide subsidized parking options for the Office of Strategic Communication to meet the needs of media personnel who visit campus to provide UW news coverage. Options include: 

  1. Press permit
  2. Validations
  3. Reserved visitor parking permits 
Scope:

Visitors of local or state media, as determined by the Office of Strategic Communication. 

Policy:
  1. All media parking permits and validations will be assigned to the Office of Strategic Communication.
  2. The Office of Strategic Communication will distribute media parking permits or validations to local or state media who need to visit campus to provide news coverage.
  3. The Office of Strategic Communication will determine the appropriate parking option based on the number of visits made to campus each year and the nature of the visits to campus.
  4. The Office of Strategic Communication will maintain and provide UW-Madison Transportation Services a list of customers who receive the permits or value passes. Each permit or value pass will be assigned to a specific individual who will be responsible for the permit or for others who share in the use of the permit.
  5. Press permits are valid in non-reserved permit stalls (stalls without signs) or timed parking stalls on campus.
  6. Guests who would like to purchase more permits or passes than allocated by the Office of Strategic Communication will be offered the opportunity to purchase additional parking on campus. 
  7. Restrictions
    1. Press permits or passes are subsidized by UW-Madison Transportation Services and cannot be used for any purpose (or by any other individual) other than official news coverage as approved and issued by the Office of Strategic Communication. Violation of this restriction will result in automatic revocation of the permit/pass.
