The Graduate School monitors satisfactory progress towards a degree by enforcing a grade-point average (GPA) policy.
Graduate students pursuing Master's or PhD degrees in academic programs under the purview of the Graduate School.
The Graduate School requires each student maintain a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 or greater for all graduate courses (excluding research). Many programs impose higher standards. The student is responsible for confirming GPA requirements with their program.
When a graduate student’s cumulative GPA drops below 3.00, the student is placed on academic probation the following term and notified via email (with a copy to the graduate coordinator). The student will not be allowed to enroll in classes beyond the probationary term until such time final grades for the probationary term are reported, and the student’s cumulative GPA is 3.00 or greater. Courses taken as audit, credit/no credit, pass/fail, or satisfactory/unsatisfactory and those resulting in an incomplete grade are not calculated in the GPA.
