Faculty and staff members with a valid appointment on an approved sabbatical may choose to hold parking space.
Definitions:
Sabbatical
A leave of absence granted to faculty for business travel or research as approved by the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Non-Medical Leave of Absence
An unpaid leave of absence approved by the Office of Human Resources is any period during which an employee has ceased to render services and receive earnings from a participating employer and there has been no formal termination of the employer-employee relationship.

Policy:
UW-Madison Transportation Services must receive a letter signed by the Chancellor (on University of Wisconsin-Madison letterhead) stating that the faculty member has an approved sabbatical. The letter must state the period for the approved sabbatical and specify if the sabbatical will take place during the fall and/or spring semester. UW-Madison Transportation Services will not hold parking for faculty who fail to provide the required sabbatical letter prior to leaving campus.
UW-Madison Transportation Services will not cancel payroll deductions process refunds, or place a hold on the annual parking assignment until faculty/staff return their permit.
Faculty/staff members who return permits prior to the fall semester will have a hold placed on their annual assignment and will be provided permits upon their return to campus.
Faculty/staff members who return permits prior to leaving for sabbatical for the spring semester will be provided a refund if appropriate (refer to UW-6136 Payments to Transportation Services) and will qualify for summer parking and/or parking for the upcoming fall semester.
