University Policy

Rationale/​Purpose:

All faculty, staff, students, and visitors are required to pay for parking a vehicle in a controlled parking garage, ramp, or lot on campus. This policy defines the proper use of afternoon parking permits.

Scope:

Any faculty, staff, student, or visitor.

Policy:
  1. Afternoon permits are valid from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and all-day Saturday and Sunday in Lots 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 18, 21, 30, 33, 44, 51, 78, 81, 85, 91 and 92.
  2. Afternoon permits are valid from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and all-day Saturday and Sunday in Lots 7, 16, 17, 20, 29, 34, 36, 67, 76, and 83.
  3. Lot 75 afternoon permits are valid in Lot 75 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and all-day Saturday and Sunday.
  4. The permit holder is responsible for using permit to enter gated lots. UW-Madison Transportation Services collects information from the gate system and staff are not authorized to raise the gate for customers except when the gate system is malfunctioning.
  5. The permit must be hung from the vehicle’s rearview mirror or displayed in a plastic pouch on the inside lower left-hand corner of the windshield. Remove all items from the mirror or window blocking view of the permit. The entire permit must be visible when the vehicle is parked on campus and the correct license plate numbers must be on file with UW-Madison Transportation Services.
  6. Permit holders should only have one valid UW-Madison Transportation Services permit in their vehicle at any time. If a permit holder has more than one permit in their vehicle and multiple permits are charged by the gate equipment in ramps, UW-Madison Transportation Services will not be responsible for refunds of double charges or value deductions to those permits.
  7. Restrictions
    1. A permit holder cannot hold an afternoon permit in the same lot in which they already hold an annual base lot permit or Flex permit.
    2. Afternoon permit holders may relocate to only those lots listed in this policy if their chosen lot is full. Relocation to a lot not listed in this policy may result in a citation.
